Depending on the time of year, we have between 150 and 400 sheep at Laverock, predominantly Cheviot and Swaledale.
The 50 acres surrounding the farm offer a range of environments and challenges for experienced sheepdogs and their handlers. While we no longer offer sheepdog training lessons, guests are welcome to use our working equipment and train independently with our sheep, which are well accustomed to working with dogs.
We have a variety of training areas available:
-
A flat, easily viewed 10-acre field
-
A 6-acre field where dogs can learn to work out of sight of their handler
-
Hillside pasture with stream, rushes, and bracken — ideal for practising look-back commands or small double gathers
